Franz-Julius Morche

Franz-Julius Morche is a post-doctoral researcher with the Institute for Area Studies, Leiden University, and the Laboratoire de Médiévistique Occidentale de Paris (CNRS/ Paris 1). At Leiden, he has been a contributor to the ERC-funded research group “Communication and Empire: Chinese Empires in Comparative Perspective” (PI: Prof. Hilde De Weerdt), working on the development of a Euro-Chinese comparative framework of elite communication in imperial structures. He gained his doctorate in Venetian trade history from the University of Heidelberg, where he was a member of “Trading Diasporas in the Eastern Mediterranean (1250-1450)” (PI: Dr Georg Christ).
